Any student wishing to compete should see the instructor for an application. Only those students that demonstrate hard work, dedication, discipline and exceptional attitude will be allowed to represent the school in competition.

Some events are more demanding than others (state and national championships, for example) and require special preparation. Students wishing to compete should attend sparring and training classes regularly.

Local tournaments are smaller competitions with fewer divisions than state and national championships; therefore, these tournaments are to be considered mainly as training and preparation for more demanding events. The local competitions give the competitor much needed experience in the competitive arena and build character. With fewer divisions, the competitor may be paired with taller, heavier, older and/or higher rank opponents.

Students should not feel that they are judged only on performance, but on effort. Some competitors are more skilled than others and win more events, but what is really important is the character that is built, the experience that is gained and the effort they put out. This is what will benefit them the most throughout life, not how many medals they have hanging on the wall. If both can be done, all the better, but not everyone is able to do this. Always keep in mind what is really important.......
